Publish Layers to SGS

Individual geospatial layers and complete projects can be uploaded and published directly to SkylineGlobe Server from TerraExplorer Desktop. Publishing a project makes its layers, resources, and styling available to TerraExplorer Desktop, TerraExplorer Fusion, mobile devices, and supported external geospatial clients.

Publishing a TerraExplorer Project

To publish a project to SkylineGlobe Server:

  1. Open the project in TerraExplorer Desktop.
  2. On the Home tab, in the Project group, click Publish to SG.

  3. If you are not already logged in to SkylineGlobe Server, enter your SkylineCloud user name and password. The Publish to SkylineGlobe dialog is displayed.

    Note: Only users assigned the Publisher role can publish to SkylineGlobe Server.

  4. Set the View Access for the project. Users with View access can view and load the published project:
    • Only me – Only the user publishing the project
    • My group – All users in the publisher’s group
    • Everyone – All users
  5. Set the Edit Access for the project. Users with Edit access can load, edit, and save changes to the project:
    • None – No users, including the publisher
    • Only me – Only the user publishing the project
    • My group – All users in the publisher’s group
    • Everyone – All users
  6. If required, set unique permissions for individual project layers, add tags to make the project easier to find, or enter a viewer token that provides direct access to secured project layers.
  7. Do either of the following:
    • To publish a new project, click Publish.
    • If the project was opened from SkylineGlobe Server and you are its owner, click Update existing to publish it as a new version of the existing project.
  8. Before uploading each layer, TerraExplorer checks whether an identical or similar layer already exists on the server. By default, an identical existing layer is reused, while a new or modified layer is uploaded. To review or change these selections, click Show existing layers.

Opening the Published Project

After publishing is complete, a dialog displays the URL of the published project and its TerraExplorer Fusion URL. From this dialog, you can:

  • Copy either URL.
  • Open the published project in TerraExplorer Desktop.
  • Open the project in TerraExplorer Fusion.
  • Open the SkylineGlobe Layers dialog to manage the published project and its layers.

Publishing a TerraBuilder Project

A TerraBuilder Project (TBP) and its project layers can also be published directly to SkylineGlobe Server from TerraBuilder. During publishing, TerraBuilder prepares and optimizes the project for DirectConnect. The published terrain can then be served to TerraExplorer clients and applications that support the standard OGC WMS and WMTS protocols.
