You can create a subset of your 3D layer by cropping out a particular section and exporting it to a new 3D layer. This can be used to replace part of a 3D layer with a 3D model or different 3DML. Export is supported for all mesh layers except for imported OGC 3D Tiles and 3DML created from models feature layers.
To extract and export a subset of your 3D layer:
- Draw a polygon around the area of the 3D layer that you want to export. Then select the polygon and copy it to the clipboard.
Note: For advanced users - If you want to create a more complex polygon (e.g., a doughnut-like shape with a hole like you see below) you can create a polygon shape layer and then use feature layer operations to clip the area in the middle. More about: Working with Feature Layers > - Select the 3D layer, and then on the 3D Layer tab, in the Mesh Layer group, select Export to Mesh. The Export to Mesh Layer dialog box is displayed. - To export sections of the 3D layer using the clip polygon on the clipboard, select the Clip layer with polygons from clipboard checkbox, and click Create.
- Load the created 3D layer into the project.
