Adding Data Sources
Data sources must be added to enable publishing of either server-side or client-side data:
- For server-side data sources, i.e., existing data on the server, the data source defines the connection information to an existing folder or database (Oracle Spatial, SQL Server, PostgreSQL or ESRI ArcSDE). When adding any server-side data source, the data source is automatically scanned and a list of all files found in the data source is displayed, so that you can select which of its layers to publish. This category of data sources includes the following data source types: SG Scanner for scanning and adding data from folders, and Oracle Spatial Database, Postgre SQL Spatial Database, Sql Server, and ArcSDE for scanning and adding data from databases.
- For client-side data sources, i.e., data that will be uploaded and published to SGS from TerraExplorer or another Skyline client application, the data source defines the path to a repository folder for the uploaded data. The data source type used for this category is SG Upload.
To add a new data source:
- From the SkylineGlobe Server Manager menu, select Data Sources. The Data Sources page is displayed.
- Click Add. The Add New Data Source dialog box is displayed.
- Type the name of the data source.
- In the Description field, type a description of the data source.
- Select the Data Source Type, and then enter the required connection parameters. These vary depending on the data source type.
- If you want to edit the properties of a previously created data source and set default permission level for all layers from this data source, from the SkylineGlobe Server Manager menu, select Data Sources. Select the required data source, and click Properties.
- If you want to delete a previously created data source, from the SkylineGlobe Server Manager menu, select Data Sources. Select the required data source, and click Delete.

Setting View/Edit Access
Edit and view access can be set for most of the data source types, to determine the default permission level for all layers from this data source: None, Only Me, My Group, Everyone, or Selected List (of groups, users, or sites). Users with valid view access for a layer can list, view and load the layer (opened from TerraExplorer Desktop, TerraExplorer for Web, WFS/WMS clients, etc.). In addition to loading the layer, users with edit access can also perform layer transactions from TerraExplorer Pro and any WFS-T client. When setting default permissions for a layer, you have the option to grant access to a Selected List of groups, users, or sites.
To set edit or view access for a data source:
- From the SkylineGlobe Server Manager menu, select Data Sources. The Data Sources page is displayed.
- Select the required data source, and click Properties. The Data Source Properties dialog box is displayed.
- In the Connection Parameters section, select a View Access and an Edit Access. If you want to grant access to selected groups, users, or sites, select Selected List. Then select the required groups/users in the Groups and Users tab, and the required sites in the Sites tab. This option is only available to super administrators.
- If you want to save the property changes without updating the layers, click Save.
