Hardware Requirements
System Requirements:
- Video Encoder Requirements: Each headset requires 2 concurrent encoder sessions. For example, to support 4 users, 8 concurrent encoder sessions are needed. NVIDIA provides a detailed GPU support matrix showing the number of concurrent encoder sessions available on different graphics cards, including professional ones with more than 5 concurrent sessions.
- For running up to two devices, a recent consumer-grade NVIDIA GeForce RTX series is recommended. For optimal performance and stability with GeForce RTX graphics cards, it is advised to install the NVIDIA Studio Driver (SD) rather than the Game Ready Driver (GRD).
- For running more than two devices, a professional-grade NVIDIA RTX series, such as the RTX A4000 is recommended. This is crucial for adequately handling the multiple video decoders essential for rendering tasks associated with numerous HoloLens devices.
Wi-Fi Connectivity:
- Standard: Wi-Fi 6.
- Router Connection: The router should be physically connected to the computer running TerraExplorer via an ethernet cable and located in the same room as the headsets.
- Firewall: It's recommended to disable the router's firewall to avoid connectivity issues.
- Multiple Devices: For setups involving four HoloLens devices, a dedicated router is recommended.
Room Conditions:
Maintain optimal lighting (not too bright and not too dark) as per Microsoft HoloLens recommendations to ensure accurate hologram projection and spatial recognition. Print the QR code on A4 paper for best results in QR code placement.
Computer Configuration for TerraExplorer and HoloLens
Computing Power:
Avoid running CPU-intensive applications simultaneously with TerraExplorer and HoloLens. Power settings should be adjusted to achieve optimal performance, especially on laptops:
- Power Plan: On both laptops and desktops, choose "High performance" or "Ultimate Performance" in Windows power settings to prioritize system performance.
- Power Mode: On laptops, set to "Best performance" to maximize power for intensive tasks.
- Sleep Settings: Prevent the laptop from sleeping during use by setting it to never sleep when plugged in.
User Requirements:
A user account with administrative rights is necessary. The software cannot run under an Administrative account that has User Account Control (UAC) restrictions disabled.
BIOS Settings:
If applicable, adjust the BIOS power settings to "Ultra Performance" mode for maximum efficiency, though options may vary by laptop model.
